Getting Lost can be a Great Thing!!

What an amazing time I had on my road trip to Bar Harbor, Maine.  We traveled through Up State New York so we could stop in Cooperstown to go to the Baseball Hall of Fame.  In that area we did not have very good reception and our navigation system didn't work all that well.  We made a few wrong turns which gave us an opportunity to see some things we would not have seen (we even came across Kinney Ave.) Getting lost seemed to be a theme on this trip.  While on a hike with my family we missed a turn and ended up hiking to the top of the mountain.  Even though I was outside my comfort zone (I am very scared of heights) I made it to the top and back down with the help of my kids (both rock climbing instructors) The views from the top were amazing and not something I would have seen had someone asked me to hike up there.  I would have passed on that opportunity thinking that it would be too hard or too scary.  I'm glad to have learned that I am stronger and braver than I had thought and I need to get lost more often!

The importance of being present

Hi Yogis,

I found out recently that a very dear friend was in the hospital.  I called immediately to find out what was going on.  She has some serious issues that will cause her to stay in the hospital for several weeks.  When she asked me if I would come to be with her while she was in the hospital, I didn't need to think twice.  This friend has been by my side in great times as well as some hard times.  I will miss teaching my yoga classes but I'm sure you will all understand why it is so important for me to go.  I will be leaving for California late on March 3rd after my 11am gentle mat class and will return on the 13th.  Classes will resume on March 14th.

Peace, Shelly

Super Clean Floors!!

Hi Yogis!

It was such a pleasure to find the floors at Berkley First had been stripped and waxed. They are very shiny! As many of you already know, Berkley First is a church that has recently reopened after being closed for over a year.  There have been a lot of renovations done and things are really looking good.  We are lucky to have a very nice room to practice our chair yoga classes in.  I hope you will consider joining in for a chair yoga class if you have not tried it yet.  We have a great group that are having a wonderful time and feeling the benefits of this gentle yoga class.  Hope to see you soon!

Peace, Shelly

Fall is here!

The temperatures are starting to cool.  I feel like I can breath a little easier.  The fun of summer travels are wonderful memories.  I still have one more big trip coming up.  I'll be attending and teaching yoga at the "Desert Sisters" retreat September 19-23 (Pete will be teaching my Tuesday 5:15 and Friday 9am during that week)  These are women that have become my family since I moved to Michigan 4 years ago, not knowing anyone and having never even visited the State.  It is so important to find community, a place of belonging and acceptance.  I hope you will come and join me at yoga as we move into Fall and then Winter so we can be community for each other.

There are a couple changes to my yoga class schedule.  A new chair yoga class has started Mondays, 9am at Berkley First.  I'm moving my Thursday 9am chair yoga to Berkley as well.  I will continue to teach gentle Hatha yoga at Starr on Tuesdays 5:15pm and Fridays 9am.  All this, plus more information is on the classes page.  I look forward to seeing you soon and enjoying your company, doing some yoga and meditating to the Tibetan Singing Bowls.

Peace, Shelly
